Prevention and Treatment for Children

When it comes to early diagnosis and care, parental example is crucial. Be sure that you are demonstrating the correct way to brush and floss – you can begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth erupts, using s a soft-bristled brush and a pea-sized amount of an appropriate toothpaste. Bringing your young child to the dentist can help to ‘normalise’ a dental visit, making the whole thing a fun experience and familiarising them with the team and the environment.

By making regular visits to the dentist, we can monitor any issues and treat them before they become a real problem – for example, losing teeth too early though poor dental hygiene can result in crooked teeth, jaw misalignment and extensive corrective treatment like braces.

There are normal imperfections on the chewing surfaces of teeth – pits and fissures that occur naturally. However, these can cause issues when food and germs get trapped – and no amount of brushing or fluoride can help if cavities occur. We offer a fissure sealant that is painted on as a liquid and then hardens. This fills the gaps and can be used on both adult and baby molars. This procedure is non-invasive and requires no drilling or anaesthetic.

Fluoride treatment is also offered to our younger patients, when there is not enough in their diet or in the water. Fluoride is important for teeth as it is absorbed by the tooth enamel, making it stronger and more resistant to decay. It is always important to consult your dentist before adding fluoride supplements, as excess quantities can cause defects in the enamel and permanent staining.

Children Dentistry Consultations At Dental Pro

One of the most important things we offer as part of our consultations is dietary advice. What you eat and how often is important for teeth and gums; the starch and sugar in foods can react to the natural bacteria in your mouth, creating acid that attacks the enamel and causes decay. If left untreated, this can develop into periodontal disease, which is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. We suggest reducing the consumption of sugary or starchy foods, swapping sweet treats for healthier alternatives and rinsing your mouth after eating as general advice – but we can tailor our message to suit your child’s oral health needs.

Medicare Children Schedule

Medicare Children Schedule

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (i.e. CDBS) provides access to benefits for basic dental services to children aged 2-17 years. The CDBS has criteria to be eligible, which requires the receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or a relevant Australian Government payment. The total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over a two-calendar year period.

Early Diagnosis & Care

First of all it is very important that parents set a good example for their children. Teaching your child that brushing is part of their everyday routine is crucial. You should start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth appears, so they associate this as an everyday routine. Gentle brushing with a soft bristled baby toothbrush and a pea sized amount of toothpaste is all that is needed.

Fissure Sealants

Fissure Sealants

Using fissure sealants is a very effective and preventive therapy against tooth decay. Pits and fissures on the chewing surface of baby and adult molars are normal imperfections, which fissure sealants fill to protect them from decay. The depth and width of the pits and fissures varies from person to person. Food and germs often become trapped in these areas.

Professional plaque removal and fluoride treatment

Fluoride is very important for teeth as it can be absorbed into bones and tooth enamel, making them stronger and more resistant to fractures and decay. It is a safe mineral compound naturally found in water, the air we breathe and many different kinds of foods.

Dietary Advice

Dietary Advice

What you eat and how often you eat it, is just as important for your teeth and gums as it is for your general health. Food and containing starch and sugar react to the bacteria in your mouth and produce acid, which attacks your tooth enamel, causing decay. If left unaddressed this can lead to periodontal disease, which is the main cause of tooth loss in adults.
